Sonya Rasminsky, MD

general psychiatry & women's mental health in orange county

I am in the office on Monday and Thursday mornings and all day Tuesday. I schedule visits by appointment only. The initial visit will last up to 90 minutes, including time for paperwork. Follow-up visits will be scheduled to last 50 minutes or 25 minutes, depending on your needs. I try my very best to run on time.  Out of respect for the next patient, I will end sessions on time, even if you arrived late.

The time of your appointment is reserved for you. If you are unable to come to the appointment, please provide at least 24 hours notice, or you will be charged the full fee for the missed visit. Please be aware that insurance companies typically will not reimburse for a visit not attended.

How to Reach Me

If you need to reach me between appointments, please call my office phone at 949-734-4912. Any messages left are confidential and will be heard only by me.  All calls will be returned within one business day. Your privacy is important to me. Since text messaging is not perfectly secure, please do not email or text me for any clinical matters.

For non-urgent matters, I use a secure messaging system called Luminello. When you schedule an appointment, you will be given instructions about setting up an account.

I exercise the highest degree of confidentiality and privacy in my clinical work. I do not have a secretary; you will always be talking directly to me. Everything that you say in the course of treatment is kept confidential. I will not disclose any of what we discuss to anyone except with your written permission. There are some very limited exceptions to confidentiality, as required by law: 1) Reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect, or abuse of an elder or dependent adult; 2) Threats of violence to self or others; 3) Subpoenas or court orders. In order to ensure that I am providing the highest level of service, I do sometimes consult with other professionals, but never use names or identifying details in these discussions.

Medication Refills

I try to prescribe in such a way that you will not run out of medication before our next visit. If you do need a prescription refill between visits, please allow two business days for the request to be processed. Please do not sign up for “auto-refill” at your pharmacy, as this will result in requests for medication being sent to me without your input.

Forms and Letters

If you require paperwork that cannot be accomplished in the course of our regular session (e.g., forms, letters, preparation of treatment summaries, etc.), you will be charged for my clinical time. All charges will be discussed in advance.

In the case of emergency, you can reach me at 949-734-4912. This number will ring through to my cell phone; please indicate that it is an emergency and that you require an urgent return call. If I am out of town or otherwise unavailable, I will have a colleague covering for me. If the emergency is life-threatening, please call 911 or proceed to the closest emergency room. Do not email or text me about emergencies.
